Used Figures for Sale
$1,200 - 'Tommy' figure By Conrad Hartz
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: Excellent Conrad Hartz figure bought by me from Conrad in 1989, but never used. I have several Hartz figures and in the 20 plus years that I have been working with them, I never needed to use this one which was bought as a back up. He has been stored in a case inside my air conditioned house all of these years and he looks exactly as the day I got him.
If you are right handed, the mouth is operated by your thumb and the eyes by your index finger. If you are a lefty, it's finger for the mouth and thumb for the eyes. The eyes are not self centering, but none of my Hartz figures are, and that's never been important to me. It's easy to add a couple of springs to make them self centering if you want. The mouth opens nice and wide like all of Conrad's figures, the paint looks great close up and really comes across under stage lights and plays to the back row of a big house.
The hands are carved by Conrad and they and the body are in perfect shape. I dress these figures in 4T pants and 5T shirts. This one is sold unclothed, but WalMart has clothes in these sizes at low, low prices.
Price for this figure is $1200 including free insured shipping by UPS or FedEx. Payment is by bank check or money order. I am glad to answer any questions. Rick Samlin (727) 734-0983

$1,200 - 'Bobby' figure By Kem Poyner
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: Why wait for months to have a quality Poyner figure.
All of the mechanics found inside of Kem`s ventriloquist figures are made of metal. Steel pushrods run through brass guide tubes which result in a virtually bullet proof design. There are no strings to break or jump off track.
The control levers are located on the headstick in such locations to allow comfortable and smooth operation. $1,600 - 'The Professor' Original figure by Joe Smith
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: This is a beautifully made professional full size figure I have dubbed The Professor. He is approx 39"-40" tall. His head is cast urethane from one of my original molds, then given features that make him truly a one of a kind figure. His head stick is turned hardwood with the control levers embedded inside for no hassle comfort and intuitive manipulation, and has a headlock spring to attach to the body. His precision fit gapless jaw is controlled via the index finger and actuates a brass push rod, cam, and pivot rod. His side to side eyes (not self centering) are controlled via the thumb that actuates a brass rod. Both movements are effortless, smooth as butter, and noise free. His wig is high quality and I cut it to give a nice dignified receding hairline appearance, it is permanently mounted to a lightweight fiberglass skullcap that was molded to fit perfectly to his head, then is attached to the trap door via two screws.
His eyes are Mike Brose cast eyes with brown irises. His torso is cast urethane from Mike Brose, with the arms and legs being sewn with new highest quality muslin, then tightly stuffed with new high quality fiberfill, then securely riveted to the body. His hands are cast urethane from Mike Brose and I rescuplted them for a nice "arthritis knuckles" look. His head and hands are painted with high quality enamel paint in several stages of color blend, then given a top coat of clear flat for maximum protection and minimum "shine". The Professor will come to you dressed exactly as you see in the photos, the glasses are actual reading glasses and can be removed. His suite is very nice with a white dress shirt, vest, pants, tie and dress shoes. The Professor is truly unique, original, and full of character. With proper care and storage this high quality figure will last decades trouble free.

$2,000 - Rare Guyll/Leder figure Signed by both figure makers!
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: Very rare Guyll/Leder little boy figure. This was the first figure from the mold (see picture above from inside the head with Guyll and Leder signatures with additional info) of this joint venture, and there may have only been one other built. 'Freddie' is in very good condition, was made in 1984, is 33" tall, and has fiberglass head, hands, feet and body. Side-to-side self-centering eyes, moving mouth (of course!), 360 degrees ball and socket neck. Comes dressed as shown and he says he's ready to perform! $1,200 - Jackson/Detweiler 'Pro Ventriloquist Dummy '
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: Carved basswood figure by Chuck Jackson. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Master figure maker Chuck Jackson is now retired leaving his figures in rare supply (see Clinton Detweiler's blog post for June 12: www.newsyvents.blogspot.com ) Kevin Detweiler, has decided to put his "Augie" (made by Jackson in 1979) up for sale, so you CAN now own one, and this figure is totally one-of-kind as a result of several Detweiler father/son (or son/father) upgrades. Beautifully dressed as pictured.
This figure is in absolutely mint condition, better than the day it was made! Check out the solid brass control levers with comfortable poly finger pads. Lifetime-strength braided nylon cords pass through protective poly tubing at the base of the neck eliminating any danger of loss of strength due to wear (a Kevin Detweiler upgrade exclusive).
The raising eyebrows and "waving hair" animations were installed by Kevin Detweiler. All controls and restringing also done by Kevin. Repainting done by Clinton Detweiler - the figure has not been used since its very recent repainting so it is fresh as the day it was created!
Additional Details: The head turns full circle, tilts and nods. Handcrafted mechanics work smoothly. Hardwood headpost with Brass finger controls for operating the mouth and side-to-side moving eyes.
And you’ll love using his raising eyebrows operated from a single control lever! When the lever is released, the eyebrows self-return to their normal position! Very unique custom pro feature. Lift the brows to show surprise, inquisitiveness, curiosity, doubt. One of the photos shows the brows in their full raised position, but you can raise only slightly as well - it only takes the touch of your finger!
WAVING HAIR? Oh, my goodness! Show surprise in a totally new comical manner. One touch of the brass control lever and this fellow is GUARANTEED TO LEAVE YOUR AUDIENCE LAUGHING as he "waves goodbye"! RARE! FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Case included!

$750 - Joel Leder 'Dummy's Dummy ' figure
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: This rare vintage miniature 15 1/2" 'tall' ventriloquist figure was made by famed ventriloquist figure maker JOEL LEDER {ca. early 1980s!}. It was carefully stored away and never utilized. It remains in brand new condition. It is truly a custom designed one-of-a-kind figure. It is very well made of fiberglass! It's dressed in a custom made tuxedo with white silk shirt and tiny black bow tie...and if you look very carefully, you'll even notice an upper pocket w/ white folded handkerchief! Every aspect of its fine detail is remarkable! It has no shoes but does have bare toes/feet...which look hysterical! This miniature dummy was intentionally designed to 'sit on the lap' of a larger dummy to become a ventriloquist dummy's very own dummy; it is an absolute scream to see this unique little dummy sitting on a larger dummy's lap...which in and of itself is quite unique!
The mouth (the only movement) moves by simply pulling the wooden "knob" located at the end of its brass tube which extends from the back of the neck (see closeup photo). The figure is henceforth placed into its brass sleeve-fitting (receiver) that is pre-installed into a standard ventriloquist figure's body. Included along with the figure is the brass tube fitting receiver that was fitted onto a prior standard size figure's body. Someone relatively handy could custom install/adapt the sleeve fitting to your specifications (see closeup photo of the fitting) or most any professional figure maker would surely be able to do this. The black velcro piece you see in the photo was part of a custom installation whereby it could be wrapped around a box (to hold it in place) which concealed the little figure up until the ventriloquist/dummy revealed what was inside of it; there are various ways in which this effect could be done.
Several ventriloquists have done this over the years including myself. If you click this link: http://www.kennywarren.com you'll see a video within the web site ("The Robert Klein Time Show") of how I utilized a little black figure of exactly the same size and setup! To design/create a miniature figure of the same quality as this one would be quite expensive; as previously stated, Joel Leder has been and remains one of the best figure makers in the industry. This is a fine (and highly collectible!) example of his work! *Serious purchaser note: FREE UPS SHIPPING/INS. TO ANYWHERE WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL U.S. IS INCLUDED!

This truly beautiful figure with quiet and flawless movements, which include moving mouth, side-to-side self centering eyes, single control for blinkers and wide eye option, raising/lowering eyebrows, and upper lip sneer, 'Tough Coat' paint protection, is so animated and such a character, you will get a laugh just coming out on stage with him! This Selberg Studios 'Nerd' figure is bursting with personality! Imagine the diaglogues with this nerdy character. He's a bit shy around girls, and blushes at the thought of talking to one of them! $4,000 - 'Collectors Item' Nelson/Jackson professional figure
*Click on photos to enlarge |
This is an original carved basswood Nelson/Jackson professional vent figure. The puppet was used for only a few special corporate presentations. It is a true collectors’ item as well as a highly unique, usable vent figure. In addition to being used by top ventriloquists, Nelson designed figures have found their way to many private collections including those of Demi Moore, Harry Anderson, David Copperfield, Bruce Willis, Whoopie Goldberg and many others. Nelson, an internationally known illustrator and sculptor, has had his figures and artwork shown in galleries worldwide.
Although there were different versions and copies made of the Mr. Horovitz character, this particularly rare and highly collectable offered herewith (one of only about six verifiably made) is clearly more definitive as evidenced by Chuck Jackson's meticulous hand carved attention to its fine, higher quality detail, beautifully accentuated by its recent paint job by Bill Nelson, sustaining its originality and authenticity. All of these factors attribute to its high economic value as well.
The figure has right hand controls with the index finger operating the mouth and the thumb controlling the eye brows which move both up and down. It comes with his original clothes. Seller's info: This is a conversion figure made for me by Steve Barry of Gepetto's Workshop. This was a special order from me, for an old Italian man. He is beautiful and the craftsmanship is wonderful. He is from a smoke-free environment. Side to side moving eyes, slot jaw style mouth, ball and socket style head for 360 degree movement, moving eyebrows for great expression, hand painted and blended detailed head and hands, hollow wooden, foam and cloth body. $2,500 - 'Collectors Item' RARE MACK FIGURE
*Click on photos to enlarge |
Seller's info: This beautiful example from the shop of Theo Mack & Son (Charlie Mack), dates to circa 1920, and was owned by noted vaudeville vent, John Schaibley. This was one of John's back up heads to his main Mack figure, "Woody", was used only occasionaly, and is in pristine condition. There was a time in this country when just about every pro working vaudeville used Mack figures. Charlie McCarthy came out of the Mack shop, and the beautiful example offered here has that classic "Mack look" the made the Macks the most sought after carvers of their day! Many of the great figure makers that followed, including Alex Cameron, Ken Spencer, and Frank Marshall, all learned their craft working in Charlie Mack's shop!
In addition to the standard moving mouth and turning head, this figure is also equipped with a right eye winker and cryer mechanism (needs a new tube and bulb).
Another feature which makes this figure particularly collectable, is that it was repainted and wigged by Frank Marshall. Frank's business card is still tacked inside the head!
The seller obtanied this figure from the collection of noted vent and vent historian, Bob Issacson. The body is by Foy E. Brown, and has the "rocking clavicle" feature, allowing the figure to look down at the first row of the audience. The hands are carved wood in the Mack style by Conrad Hartz. Seller: Glen Rappold

$1,100 - Unique, one of a kind,
professional ventriloquist figure.
*Click on photos to enlarge |
This is a truly beautiful and exceptionally well made professional ventriloquist figure. It really has that desirable look to it! This is a full size figure (44" "head to toe"). As you can see, this cute little "wisecracker" has a unique look of his own, since he's a true work of custom detailed ventriloquial art. Unlike many ventriloquist figures offered on today's market, this is a one-of-a-kind piece with no duplicate having ever been made! It's constructed of solid, highly durable finest grade fibreglass that's guaranteed never to warp or deteriorate. It's designed to really last and has sturdily installed (by expert figure maker/mechanic Greg Claassen whose meticulous detail/work is well known in the industry) finest calibre internal/external mechanics (notice the brass levers) that operate very smoothly, quietly and reliably. The inside of the head is easily accessible as well although there would be no reason to access the mechanics; they're exceptionally durable as is the super strong nylon mouth cord! Also, notice that the fine paint job is nothing less than superb! Featured movements include: self centering bi-directional moving eyes; moving mouth (smooth/quiet action) as well as a spitter effect that's absolutely hysterical to see! The beautifully styled (ruddy color) wig is also better quality! Figure originally came with a flat bottom neck, but has since been upgraded to a quality 'ball and socket' neck joint for excellent manipulation.

$5,500 - Unique, one of a kind, high-end figure
by Greg Claassen
*Click on photos to enlarge |
|
This figure has never been used. Built by noted figure maker Greg Claassen in 2003 in
conjunction with Bill Nelson. If you know about Greg Claassens McElroy reproductions, then you know the quality of his work. His mechanics are in a class of their own! Bill Nelson's artistry is likewise beyond superb. Bill designed and painted the figure while Greg
did the casting and mechanics. The head and body were cast using a durable urethane
resin. Mechanics are 100% brass, very smooth and
quiet. Right hand controls with the index finger operating the mouth and
the thumb controlling the eyes. Mechanical movements include self centering
side to side eyes, brass shell blinkers (not individual winkers however),
raising/lowering eyebrows, and stick out tongue. Has a ball neck which rests
in the socket in the shoulder. His body is a fully cast torso with a pot
belly in the McElroy style which is very light weight (legs even have
kneecaps). He comes fully dressed. This is a one of a kind figure that will
not be duplicated and perhaps Greg's best creation to date. Imagine the great dialog you can have with this surly looking old gentleman. Don't let this one slip away! How much would you normally have to pay for such a unique, one of a kind, custom built, high-end figure?!? This fine figure has features and quality not available anywhere else at any price. And how long would you normally have to wait to get such a custom figure?!?!? I'm sure you know the answer to that one. This fine creation is available now! Don't miss out!
